Food is Ready

This is what the microwave tells me after it has waved it's micro magic for the amount of time I specified. "FOOD IS READY".  What if it's not ready? What if the needs some more wave action to be warm enough for my liking? What if I burned it? How can the microwave make such a proclamation?
